It's the most wonderful time of the year......

Well, here it is Christmas eve.  Presents are wrapped, cookies are baked, cards were sent and Santa is on his way.  (with 12-20 inches of new snow mind you)

This snow storm is throwing quite a 'kink' in some travel plans for not only my family but many others I'm sure.  I don't think Uncle Jeff, Aunt Vanessa and Grandma Sharon are going to make it up on Christmas day to celebrate but that's okay, there are plenty more days for us to get together and extend the Christmas season. Our trip to Warroad may be delayed by a few hours or a day.....we'll make that call when the time comes.

But for now, I sit typing this and watching it snow those big, slow, gentle looking snowflakes. The kind that Christmas songs and Christmas cards were designed from.

My kids are so excited for Santa to arrive tonight. There has been many conversations on what his plan is and what will Rudolph do with all this snow and how many presents they will get tomorrow morning......it's a joyful chatter that I hear.

I can already feel my mind slowing down with the realization that I have 11 days of freedom of not having to report to my job.   I 'facebooked' yesterday that it's time for me to re-focus on my family and friends and I already feel a change in attitude thanks to the new snow and a recent trip outside to do some sledding.

May all who read this enjoy the holiday season, may God bless you in many ways this upcoming year and may your family and friends know how important they are to you.

Merry Christmas!

Kid talk.

Emma and Logan are in the bathroom washing their hands. Kirby and I are in the bedroom putting away clothes and this is the conversation we hear......

Logan:   "Emma, do you like me?"
Emma:  "Yes, Logan. You are the best brother ever."
Logan:  "Yeah, I am."

I guess brothers and sisters DO like each other somedays

"Fa Ra Ra Ra Ra...." - a few thoughts...

Ever vigilant, Gunner walks his post on the lookout for the Jolly Old Fat Guy, for 'Tis the Season' of materialism and access.
*Gorging oneself during holiday meals has become commonplace. But doesn't it seem contrary to the acceptance that "gluttony" is one of the Seven Deadlies to anyone else?
*In recognition of Baby Jesus asleep in a manger, my children ARE allowed to play with our Nativity Scene. They are, however, NOT allowed to carry Snow Globes anymore. Although the sparkly gelatinous liquid did leave the bathroom floor smelling minty fresh.
*In the spirit of giving, shoppers ramble and barge their way through malls across the globe. I purposely offer up a "Merry Christmas" to anyone I encounter during our quest for the perfect gift. Occasionally I am pleased to receive the cordial retort but more often I'm saddened by these glimpses into humanity.
*Our Postal Workers deserve a Medal of Honor or a hearty slap on the back for their tireless devotion to duty in sub zero temperatures. Daily I look forward to seeing what surprises our mailbox has in store for us.
*Having children has completely erased any negative feelings I have had in the past during the Holiday season. Having spent a couple of Christmases in a desert fox hole, I now understand my place in time as I hoist my own children to place the Star on top of the tree. God Bless our troops abroad - may Santa and God grant them a good night's rest and an easy heart knowing that they are loved.
Merry Christmas to all my friends...
* Ruds - your children are family to us. I'm so glad Mamu has taken well to school and I adore the tenderness with which Baby L cares about all of the Kirbys.
*Dillons - proud to call you friends for deep down I always knew that you deserved a loving family to care for. O-Dawg completes you both!
*Johnsons - your insight, passion and humor has made my family better for knowing you. Your tribe is that of which fairy tails are written.
*CoaB & Family - it is from afar that we have admired the inner-workings of your mind and your family. It's always comforting to know that we are not alone with joys and frustrations in raising good little people.  (Joyeux Noel or Mele Malikimaka - you choose!)
*To all my "other" Rowdy Friends - may we share a campfire or a phone call soon. May your shots be short and your stories long. Thank you for being in our lives. Michele said it best - "We are too blessed to be stressed."
Merry Christmas and God Bless.

Too blessed to be stressed.

Too blessed to be stressed.
Too blessed to be stressed.
Too blessed to be stressed.

This has been my montra this week. The saying I keep repeating to myself when I start to feel overwhelmed.

I'm too blessed to be stressed.

My stress is good stress.

I'm healthy, my kids are healthy, my friends and family members are healthy.

I have a job, my husband has a job.

We have a roof over our heads, clothes in our closets, and shoes for our feet.

I am thankful for dirty dishes and laundry needing to be done.

Everything else is minimal.

I am too blessed to be stressed.

Here's to the last week before the Christmas holiday.......

I'm too blessed to be stressed and so grateful for all I have.

Lucky 7

On December 14th, 2002... I said "I do."

Today is our 7 year wedding anniversary.  Happy Anniversary honey! I'm still loving ya!

This is one of my favorite pictures of 'that' day.

Tyler and my Dad walked me down the isle to the next important man in my life.

Kirby and I knew each other throughout most of our college days.  It wasn't until I graduated, moved away and came back to visit for a weekend that he realized that maybe I was 'the one.' (or maybe it was vice versa?) We hung out at a St. Patty's Day party at the lakehouse he was living in, surrounded by a bunch of our good friends and having a good time.  That night I wore I shirt that said, "Lucky 7."

Brent and Becky are smiling right now cause they know the story all too well.......

Our wedding day was suppose to be a winter wonderland with ice candels, a light dusting of snow and love in the air.

Reality turned out to be water candels, a 60 degree day in December with no snow in sight but still lots of love in the air.

What's a wedding without guns right? Apparently while I was getting beautiful, my future hubby and his friends were outside taking pictures with the paid by the hour photographer and  their guns.

(Notice my winter wonderland landscape)

It'a amazing how fast times flies and how much your lives can change in 7 years.

Life has been grand.

I'm so excited for the next 7 years, and then the next 7 years after that and so on and so on.

Happy Anniversary honey.  I'm glad I said 'yes' on that cold windy day overlooking Lake of the Woods at the end of March and the end of the ice fishing season.

I'm a lucky gal.

Buddy the Elf...

This afternoon after picking up my children from daycare, Logan was 'throwing' a fit in the backseat because his big sister had Cheezits in a plastic bag.  Although she was willing to share with him, he wanted to hold the bag which entails a fit apparently.

I tried to reason, I explained, I attempted to connect with a 3 year old on why it didn't matter that his sister got to hold the bag and he didn't and that the important thing was that he was GETTING a few of the cheezits to eat.

I'm pretty sure he didn't hear a word I was saying because he continued to cry and yell and cry and yell as we drove the 10 miles home.

Until Emma, in her voice of reason, stated the following to him.

"Logan... you know in Buddy the Elf, that song they sing....'you better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout I'm telling you why. Santa Claus is coming to town.'  You better stop ya know."

Silence.....................

Thank you Emma, I couldn't have said it better myself.

Happy Birthday dear friend....

Today is Gunner's 6th and golden birthday.

I have always wanted a dog.

When I was growing up, I guess there was not enough room at our house with four kids or maybe my parents just weren't 'dog' people but, whatever the reason, I never had the chance to grow up with a dog.

When Kirby and I got married we put our priorities in order like all good, smart couples should do.  Get married, buy a house, buy reliable vehicles and think about having children, or in our case, more children.

I don't think Kirby had 'dog' on his list but I know I did. Luckily he was smart and loving enough to realize that getting his wife a puppy would make her a very happy woman 6 years ago.

Introducing...........Gunner the day we got him at 8 weeks old.

Can't you just see the joy and happiness in my face?  I will admit, the puppy years are hard (just like infancy) but once you get past the potty training and training to listen and not treat the house like a chewing toy... having a dog is wonderful.  Okay, I will also admit that shedding, the dog hair that has killed two vacuums, the massive amounts of dog poop in your yard and the additional financial costs may not seem worth it to some....  But,  having a perfect house/yard has never been my goal.  A house is to be lived in and what better way to make that happen then with a dog and 3 kids right?

My main wish for having a dog was giving my children the opportunity to grow up with a dog-something that I didn't have.  I strongly believe that allowing your children to grow up with an animal as part of their family teaches a whole other aspect about love and loyality that I could not teach them as a parent.

Gunner has been apart of many special days for all my kids.

Logan learning to walk....

Many, many birthday pictures.

Hunting firsts!

First day of school.

Many hours spent in the woods.....

And Gunner is also a great snuggler.  In fact, Gunner knew I was pregnant before I knew I was pregnant.  How do I know?   Gunner was never allowed to sleep on our bed back in his younger days.   Then, all of a sudden one night he jumped up and was at my feet night after night after night.  A few weeks later, I found out I was pregnant with Emma.    Same goes true for Logan.  Gunner endured sleeping on his pillow during the infant years with Emma-her moving up to her crib in her own room and then into a big girl bed.  Then sure enough, all of  sudden he was back up on our bed night after night after night.....and a few weeks later, I was telling Kirby we were expecting again!

(No, I'm not pregnant in this picture, just wanted to show you what a good snuggler he is)

Gunner has been around during the 'beginning' years of our marriage as well.

But what's really great about Gunner, is his commitment to our kids.

When Kirby is gone, Gunner goes on high alert, almost like he knows that he needs to be even more protective than he usually is. Gunner is a great warning for us when he is outside by barking to let us know the following:
1. When anyone dares to walk down our street or in front of our house.
2. When a leaf blows down the street.
3.  When someone is parking their car anywhere near our house.
4. When there is a cat walking down our street.
5. Newspaper delivery alert!
6. Any other live animals such as a bear or a lost ferret.

My favorite thing about his protectiveness though is when Kirby is gone and I get up to go into the shower before getting the kids up and ready.  Gunner will get up as well and sit in front on the steps that lead up to the kids rooms and will lay there until I open the bathroom door.   He will also do this during the night-almost as if he's making sure that no one or no thing will get by him.

I also believe that no hunter is a complete man until he has a dog to go hunting with.

I'm pretty sure I heard Kirby say the other day that Gunner is the best dog he has ever known.  Gunner might not be the best hunting dog, but he's the best dog.

Happy Birthday dear friend.
Thank you for being such a wonderful dog to our family.
