Break Channel.

It's Friday, March 11th.
My Jarhead friends on Facebook have noted that it's 0311. That's today's date and my MOS in the Marines. 0311 - Basic Marine Corps Infantryman. A Pig in the mud. A bullet catcher. A Grunt.

Today is also Day #1 of Spring Break 2016 - the gruntwork of MAP testing is done. Third Quarter grades are signed, sealed and delivered. We made it to Friday and now we officially have a week off of school...9 Days!

I'm catching a Noon flight to Kotzebue tomorrow. My buddy Ben is riding his Snowmobile in from Selawik and picking me up. It's about a 4 hour ride. After lunch in the big city, we plan on fishing our way back to Selawik - maybe see if we can find some fishing holes in the Kobuk Lake. The Sheefish are reportedly running and I want to tie in to one of those 4 footers real bad.

I'm looking forward to a little R&R in Selawik. Not the Rich & Rare Canadian Whiskey but the Rest & Relaxation of no classroom duties. And a buddy that's willing and able to strike up some wilderness adventures.

I'm checking out of Facebook, Blog, School, Grades, Lesson Plans, Responsibility LAND - and ready to enjoy myself off the Rock. Maybe some Ptarmigan hunting. Maybe some sight seeing. Maybe some fishing. Whatever the next week brings me - I'm ready because I know this much needed break brings me one Giant step closer to finishing this school year. 8 weeks left of teaching in the Northwest Arctic...
