Back home we try to keep our kids from talking about being
bored too often. My wife even says that, “It’s good to be bored. It’s also
called “relaxing.” – So instead of sitting here mindlessly scrolling through
the Facebook Feed again…instead of refreshing the WILD game in hopes that the
interwebs cleans up … instead of reaching in to the pantry for another snack… I
figured I’d write.
Follow up “Go Six Nine” with “Stiff as a Bored” - seriously?– what have
I become?
I’ve resigned to writing about being bored. I have lowered
my literary standards of composition and resorted to using crappy play on words
that skirts the PG13 rating. Don’t worry readership, I have accepted the fact that this
may not be my best piece.
I apologize. I’m bored.
I woke today at a decent hour. I finished watching “Horrible
Bosses” – the movie that I fell asleep to last night. I enjoyed the Wild Bill
Breakfast Special of pancakes and bacon. He and I have visited off and on for
hours today.
At about 1:00 pm I went for a walk. Officially, the sun
doesn’t rise or set. It’s technically recorded as 2 o’clock for both. There is light
however. At about 11:30 it’s dusky and stays dusky until about 4:30 but none of
that duskiness mattered today with the howling winds. It was a doosy out there today folks. Visibility sucked.
I finished watching “Saving Private Ryan” today too. Wrote a few
emails. Went to basketball practice a half an hour early to mingle and make
small talk at the school. I stayed a half an hour, maybe more, after practice
to make photocopies and lesson plans for class next week. And then celebrated
that excitement with leftover macaroni and cheese and a burrito. Tonight I have
sat at the table here “channel surfing” the dot coms from Facebook to Gmail –
looking for a little hint of life out there.
I can’t possibly peel off a third movie in one day.
I’ve recently finished a few good books and can’t seem to
push through the end of another.
There’s not much to do really.
But that’s OK – maybe this is what “RELAXING” feels like.
I am too blessed to be stressed.
One week until I’m home.

Hey Kirb,
Sounds like cabin fever has hit above the arctic circle. Meanwhile here in MN we are having a really good Sunday rain in the middle of December. Hard to believe but it sure beats snow. This has been a great start to the winter. Everyday it doesn't snow puts us one day closer to spring!
Since the Vikings played on Thursday night, I'm flipping between the Steelers Bengals game and the Bears Redskins game. Both games are one sided right now.
I emailed Michele yesterday about Christmas day and we have it all figured out. So we just need your butt back here to make it complete. Hope all of your flights work out. I know you're excited for your 2 week break.
Take care brother,
Jeff
You could start planning your first trip with your family to Chicago or reading reviews of other places you want to go while you are traveling.
