Made it to Day #2

I am not going to do a Daily Post about life in Kivalina.
Though I do plan on writing here from time to time. I hope to share some pictures and maybe soon put together a little video.
I have been mindlessly clicking through our Mandated Reporting Inservice mumbo-jumbo while my eyelids grow heavier and heavier.
I put in a solid day in my classroom. Desks and shelves have been moved around. Got a few electronics hooked up and finagled around. Put up a bulletin board or two. Just kept plugging away knowing that we fly back to Kotzebue with RAVN Air tomorrow for our first real week of contracted work through the District. Monday I become an Official Employee of the NWABSD.
But for now....
It is 10:48 p.m. and for sometime I've heard the sound of little children playing outside my window. 10:49 and it sounds less like playing and more like nonsense.
Yep - just peaked out my kitchen window and there are 9 children up to no good. Children - Like the youngest one is probably 6 and the oldest is probably 10 or 11. Both boys and girls. They're jumping from the back porch of the school (Directly outside my classroom) and launching themselves on to the top of the school maintenance shed. Yep - they spotted me watching them from the window.
Actually, what they're trying to do is look in the classrooms or even catch a glimpse in to Teacher Housing...so by me peaking out above my kitchen sink I kinda gave them the attention that they wanted.
They scattered.
Not far though...the're on the "playground" - rolling an oil barrel around and just being kids. Now I can see another group playing basketball on a dilapidated rim across the way and coming up the road is a small group of 4-5 teenagers. At least one of them is smoking a cigarette...
Awesome.... 10:56 p.m. I can barely stay awake...
Getting these dudes in to a classroom schedule and routine is going to take an act of God.
Just smiling - honestly have a smirk on my face as I type.
Trying to remember that I'm the GUEST here.

Flight to Kotz @ 4:00 pm tomorrow afternoon if the weather holds.

What the what? How is it that two dudes who 'met' in this virtual blogosphere world could somehow land on a similar path at almost the exact same time? Not that I'm on the verge of doing anything close to what you're doing, but I'm writing again and you're writing again and I think that's fantastic. Good luck up there. Mad props to you and yours for the push and the jump off that cliff.

My brother from another Mother... How in the heck did you find me here? I'm glad you're out there and thinking about putting that digital "pen to paper". Me? For now my world is spinning...sometimes I don't know my head from a hole in the ground because of information overload. And other times - well...let's just say, it's good for the soul. I hope to write while I'm on The Rock.
Good to hear from you my friend,
Stay in touch.
