My 7th grade volleyball coach was a tough lady. She didn't take any guff from anyone and on the first day of practice she said this, "To be early is to be on time, to be on time is to be late." So, we all made dang sure we were 'early' to anything that season.
As I grew up, I continued to be on time and I still do. I feel that if you are late, you are being disrespectful to that person/people that are waiting for you to show up and acting as if your time is more important than theirs.
Yesterday we were on our way to Cambridge to take the kids to a birthday party that started at 1pm. It was 12:27 and I was trying to get us all out the door.......but, a few things slowed us down. 1-Raider had to go outside, 2-Emma asked me to put a braid in her hair and 3-Logan was having a hard time getting his shoes tied.
We finally got out the door, a few minutes behind the schedule I had in my head and made our way to Cambridge.
We were at the last stretch of road when we came upon a car accident. A bad car accident that had just happened, like maybe a minute or two before we got there. We slowed down and looked at the smashed up cars and people standing around trying to help the one car that was in the middle of the road and banged up. It seemed that the driver got out but there was someone injured in the passengers seat. The other car was in the ditch and we couldn't see anyone. It had just happened and we were just a few minutes behind it.
I have always been the person to take things as a sign that if I get behind that car doing 45 on a 55 two laned road...that it was meant to be that I wasn't suppose to get where I was going as fast as I wanted to get there. It was a sign to slow down and just take my time.
Kirby and I both realized that we were lucky to be running late on this particular day. It shook up both of us as we made our way to McDonalds and watched police car after police car zip past us on their way to the accident scene. The 'what ifs' creeped in suddenly and I was thankful for Emma asking me to put a braid in her hair and having a new puppy that needed to go out one more time before we left and that Logan was only 4 and hasn't figured out how to tie his shoes yet.
So, just a friendly reminder to all our friends/family/blog stalkers that read our blog.....
Sometimes you aren't suppose to get where you are going at the time you want to be there. Sometimes running late is a good thing.

And then yesterday at Church I was reminded again of Who is really in charge. It wasn't Emma's braid that made us late for the birthday party - nor was it Logan's untied shoes. Raider and his potty habits can't be given credit for keeping us safe from that terrible crash. Nope - God is ultimately in control. And as much as I try like my wife to be punctual, sometimes there are reasons that we are unaware of.
I am so very thankful for my friends and family. I am so thankful to see God working in our lives.
God's Peace

Psalm 23
1The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
He sure does watch out for us. Very glad to hear everyone is ok.
When I first saw the word late in the title, my immediate thought was 'late, as in late late, as in OMG, we're having a baby late'... then I read on and realized that this post was a little more serious than that.
Very glad to hear that by being a few steps behind, the Kirby Krew really came out ahead.
Keep loving life, my Minnesota friends.
