Saturday, Logan and I were given a pass to find "boy stuff" to do because Princess Emma & Queen Mommy were off exploring retail heaven. Actually, we were asked if we wanted to go with or if we could find something to do."
Ummmmm....yeah, we can find something to do, dear"
I understand that most all little boys would enjoy a 4 wheeler ride but Bear begs for it often. So, when he got word that we were going grouse hunting up at Roger's farm, it became tough to tell whether he was more excited than his dog. See, Gunner loves running the woods up in Krushel too. Saturday was the Minnesota Bow Opener along with the beginning of small game season. Although Logan tried talking me into bringing our youth bow and arrow along, I was able to keep him happy by strapping his big brother's BB gun to the wheele,r right along side my 12 gaug,e in search of some early season grouse.
We spied a grey squirrel bounding from limb to limb in the pines and I sat back and enjoyed the show as the 3 year old's wilderness adventure played out in his imagination. (I didn't tell him that the BB gun wasn't cocked. - oh it was loaded - Bear made sure of that. 100+ BBs loaded one by one but none were locked and loaded as he crept through the underbrush.)
The Little Bear's smile grew but his frustration mounted and soon enough he asked dad to blast him with the 12 gauge but by that time, the squirrel was on to us and headed for the hills. We motored around and around the trails of Roger's back 80. Slow lazy turns and gentle climbs were interuppted by a nice mud hole every now and again. The chorus of laughter that came from my pint sized partner as the water reached the top of the crank case made the trip fully worth it.
Apple Juice and granola bars broke up the monotony but so did potty breaks and climbs to the top of deer stands. At one point, the small hunter felt an urge down below and seemed fully impressed that I had a ziploc of TP stashed in my orange vest. But I quickly learned that - One thing that this little BEAR doesn't do is Number Two in the woods.
He does give a lot of high fives, hugs and "thank yous". I love you BEAR.
