This one below is the baby of our family.
I can relate to his position as I am #4 out of 4 in my family.
Kirby can't quite relate to Logan's position as he is in position #1 in birth order for his family.
(We all know how those first borns can be.....)
I often have fears that Logan is missing out or not getting enough attention or isn't getting the same opportunities that Tyler and Emma have or have had.
This fear came upon me strongly the other night.....
It was open house night for gymnastics and schools and we had a busy afternoon/evening planned with a stop at Logan's preschool, Emma's gymnastics gym and then off to Daddy's school for a visit to his classroom as well as a stop to meet Emma's teacher.
Somewhere in there was dinner.
Logan is not quite convinced yet that he should go to preschool. When I had one of my 'fear episodes' last spring that Emma was 4 and went to preschool and here Logan is going to be 4 and we don't have him signed up and that's just not fair so we better get him signed up for school but I need to change my works chedule completly around and contact the school to see if they still have room and find the money to send him to preschool and get everything in order so he can go..... and breath.
So, thankfully I got that in order and asked Logan if he wanted to go to school just like Emma and Tyler and his reply was, "No, I awyledy no my ABZ's."
We have been working with him all summer then casually mentioning how fun school is and what he would get to do there and just bringing it up every once in a while so his little 3 year old brain could think about it and digest the thought.
With open house this week and a chance to see his classroom and meet his teachers, I ask him again about going to school and he still replies, "No, I tan count." So, I tell him that maybe we'll just go to open house and he can decide after he see's his classroom and meets his teachers.
We attend, he plays and checks things out, eats a few cookies, see's his cool locker and tells me. "Okay Mommy, I will go to school." Whew!
Then we stop at gymnastics sign up. Emma is happy to be back in the gym and see Miss Kim and at this open house they are allowing the kids to 'check out' the equipment and run around and play on everything. (Good marketing ploy right?) Miss Kim tests Emma on a few skills to see what class to put her in this year but my attention is on Logan. He is running around with the biggest smile on his face. You see, he has only been able to look at the equipment through the waiting room glass for the past 2 years. For him to actually be able to touch the equipment and be on the other side of the wall has just fullfilled a lifetime wish-or so it looks like it to me. :)
We leave, drive down to see Daddy's classroom and I casually mention to Kirby that Logan LOVED playing on the gymnastics equipment. (This is where my marketing ploy comes in...I know Kirby has had a long day of workshops, just finished football practice and he's got parents/kids in his room at the moment so he's a little distracted to think clearly about what I'm hinting at. I smile a big smile and tilt my head to the side and look lovingly at Logan and then back to Kirby..........) and hear Kirby say, "He could do gymnastics this year I guess, cause next year he starts hockey."
And that's all I needed to hear..........
Logan is now attending preschool this fall and will be joining his sister in gymnastics one night a week. You should see the change in my little boy who now has places he needs to be at that are his own things to experience and talk about.
Sigh..... My little boy is growing up.

The Bear is headed for B'nastics...it's going to be fun. And as long as they'll be in the gym at the same time, it'll all be good. I mean it's only money and I want my kids to have every opportunity to try new things until they find their niche in life....
But Mrs. Kim and Mrs. Michele have conspired their evil feminine ways to pull one over on me in a time of chaos and confusion....you win this time ladies.
But watch out - Logan is a charmer and little girl gymnasts are cute - sounds like a recipe for pre school love!

How cute! And gymnastics will build his agility for hockey!!!
Nathanael didn't want to go to kindergarten stating that he, too, knew his ABD's. So I told him that if he didn't go, a bear would eat him in his sleep.
Suddenly he was all compliant and stuff.
Okay, not really, but the thought did cross my mind at the time. It's not easy to debate a preschooler.
Funny how it is ok for this year but next year he starts hockey! Seriously though it is so fun to watch our kids grow up and learn what they like and don't like. Hope he has a blast in gymnastics!
