The first "First Day"

The President made an attempt to address the nation's youth today at 11:00. Jacobson Elementary left it up to individual teachers as to whether or not their classes would watch this speech that has somehow ignited 'haters' in small town Rush City.

As a student of History, I wanted to show the speech but it aired during our lunch hour. (Must prioritize, right?)I figured we'd pass on the opportunity after hearing from a couple of adamant parents. I did read the transcripts and quickly deduced that no Secrets of National Security were divulged nor did our Commander in Chief slide any political agenda into the mix. He simply told those watching to take responsibility for their own education. If only it was that easy Mr. President.... if only....

On a more personal note, Sista Emma took a giant leap into seizing 'responsibility' for her own education today. 9/08/09 was her official first day of school. Looking back, I've now had 26 'first days'. This morning Emma asked how many years she'd have to go to school. Now that's a responsible Kindergartner thinking of her future past snack time!

The morning routine at home went well - Eggo Waffles and SpongeBob eased us into the transition of a wake up call that really wasn't much earlier than our summer pool hours. Michele and E had picked out the dress the night before. Logan immediately knew something was up when Emma's hair was put into a pony tail and Dad's new work clothes didn't include a cut off shirt or sandals.

Gunner's always game for a 'happy snappy'.

Minnow skipped up the sidewalk from the car to the school. A major benefit of being a teacher is being able to have my kids in the same building. Emma loved the attention from my co-workers that made a big deal about the little girl that was all smiles but reluctant to let go of Daddy's hand. 8:10 a.m. came and went with a hug and a kiss as our daughter eagerly awaited Mrs. Sybrant's next wish.

This pic is actually from last week's Round-Up.

Emma shared:
*she passed on Snack Time (apparently not a fan of Goldfish Crackers anymore?)
*she made a new friend and played house during 'free time' BUT doesn't know her new friends name.
* her birthday was celebrated with ribbons, certificates and a classmate serenade.
*You can hang your backpack on whichever coat rack you choose!
*in the book "Don't Eat the Teacher", a shark really eats the teacher!
*the Bus Ride was thumbs up.
*she wants to go back tomorrow.

We are so Proud of you Miss Emma.... way to be responsible!
