Who Cares???

I'm reading a book right now that my roommate bought for me off of Amazon. After sharing thoughts and ideas from my Blog with my High School English Teacher friend, he immediately jumped on line and ordered it. Just telling me about it wasn't going to suffice. This was a book that Bill knew I needed to have - Stephen King "On Writing - A Memoir of the Craft"

I'm not sure if I've ever read one of Stephen King's other books. I'm not much of a Fiction guy and definitely not much for Horror or Science Fiction/Murder Mystery stuff. But this book is right up my alley. The first part is a collection of short descriptive essays from his childhood. Nothing gory or creepy. Truth. Sometimes short and contrite. Other times detailed and specific.

The second part jumps in to more of the educated and experienced teaching of the act of good writing. Stephen King has made a living arranging letters in to words and words in to thoughts. I do it for fun.

Oh, I'm reading a few other books right now too...just finished "Canoeing with the Cree" that the City Cousin sent me. Halfway through "A Walk in the Woods" story of hiking the Appalachian Trail by Bill Bryson that Mrs. Kirby sent my way. And at school I'm reading a fun book to the students called "StarGirl" by Jerry Spinelli.

So according to Stephen King, I'm partially on my way to good writing by virtue of good reading.

His next words of advice are to write daily.

I'm not dedicating myself to that endeavor just yet.

But I still click on the URL for this here family blog...daily I check the counter and know that somewhere out in the daggone...www.internet.com... somebody, somewhere is checking to see if I've written anymore.

So - I'm inclined to write...just don't always have something intellectual or prophetic to say. Don't always have some grand adventure or life lesson to twist in to a personal essay and dress up with a few happy snappys.

But you're here...and so you obviously care.

Thank you.

Like the Care Packages that magically appear in the office at McQueen - you readers and those Flat Rate boxes are my connect to my old "real world". I think of you often.

So ends another day in KIVILs.

Hey Paul,

Keep the stories coming, I find myself checking here often to see what's up in your world. While my idea of an adventure would have been Hawaii, Alaska seems to suit you for the most part.
