Duluth for just two please......

This past weekend, Kirby and I stole away for a quick trip up to Duluth..did I mention that we were ALONE? As in, just  him and me, me and him?

We haven't been away from our kids for 2 whole nights since our honeymoon (7+years ago but who's counting right?)  It was well overdue and thankfull Papa Ray and big brother Tyler were able to hold down the fort and take care of the little ones so Kirby and I could spend sometime together.

It was great, I won't lie.
We ate like kings.
We walked slowly down the street...in fact, I would go as far as to say we strolled down the street.
We got in and out of the car and didn't have to click and unclick car seats.
I actually paid attention to Kirby for large amounts of time and everything that I said him wasn't rushed or said in secret codes or spelled out over childrens heads.
We walked in silence at a fast past.
We weren't forced to find the closest bathroom everyplace we went.
We drove for miles with no questions, no complaints, no whines, and no worries.

And at the end of our time alone, we drove home with the excitement of seeing our kids again.
We concluded that no matter how nice it was for it to be just 'us' again, that our lives are better and fuller sharing it with our children.

Don't you just cherish those times though! Together just the 2 of you! I love my children with everything I am, but it is so nice to once in a while remember that not only are we parents together, we are a couple as well. WE dont' get those times together too often, but when you do, they mean that much more. I think the kids enjoy their time away from us as well..haha! Glad you were able to take time for just the 2 of you!!!

I was clipping along at a pace that I'm not really used to, with my best friend, up on the Lakewalk in Duluth this past weekend... when she reached out in stride and held my hand... no words were spoken during that stretch but more than enough was said.

My life is not complicated nor complex Five (if there is really a difference).

My life is perfect.
I love our kids.
I love our family.
I love you.
Thank you,
k

Gee, you described Vanessa and my life together everyday. No kids for us is good but like you said for you having your kids is the best. Sounds like you had a nice time in Duluth. We would like to getaway to Duluth for 2-3 days sometime ourselves. Our last trip up there was too quick and too foggy.

Cheers, Jeff
