Lunch Pail Guys

While I was grabbing the newspaper in the elementary office this morning, the secretary stopped me with something she wanted to share. She asked me if I was the "Lunch Pail" coach. I immediately knew what she was talking about being as her son, Corey, had played football for us for 4 years and was the senior Captain this past year. Kim wanted to show me a paper that Corey had written for his English class that she had saved in her documents. She figured I might like to read it. She was right.
As I stepped around the desk to get a peak at her computer, I could immediately tell that Corey was a talented writer after only a few short sentences. His introduction had me glued to the screen. The basis for his work was a Football Pre-Game speech I had given about 3 years ago. I'm generally known as the "motivational speaker" of the staff and take pride in touching on that emotional aspect of the game. Corey's recollection of my "Lunch Pail" story was on and he truly got that message. He went on to say how proud he was to be from a small town, a place where kids fix their own cars, a place where the school sits on the edge of town near acres and acres of farmland. He was proud knowing that his small town developed work ethic would get him through life with the kind of skills necessary to be successful.
You know now that I think about it, I don't even remember our "Pocket Hercules" mentioning that we beat the "cake-eaters" from Breck in that playoff game. It's so rewarding to know that some 3 years later, a few choice words from me have been taken to heart by such a Cool, Calm and Collected kid like Corey.
Thanks for sharing Kim.
Thanks Soggy....thanks for being the kind of kid that ever coach deserves.
