Preschool.....Day 1

Today was Emma's first day of preschool. She is going to a preschool in a local church, 3 days a week for 2 1/2 hours. We have been "preparing" her for the last week or so, telling her that she will get to go to school just like her big brother and that she will go to school to play and learn and meet new friends. She has been pretty receptive to going and was even excited last night when we tucked her into bed.

This morning when I went in to wake up her up, I said, "Emmmmmaaaa, guess where you get to go today?" "You get to go to school!" and her response was, "Will you stay there with me all day?" (spoken in a sad voice as she turned over and reached for her blankie)

We got her out of bed, got dressed and then I made her 8 mini pancakes to eat while she watched some cartoons and woke up a bit. By 8:05, she was getting her new backpack together and telling me that it was 'time to go to school!' I think she was ready and awake now to take on preschool.

Papa Ray followed behind us and walked into the church with us. Emma seemed a little nervous to take off her new princess coat and hang up her backpack and put on her name tag, but she did it. There was a moment of hesitation as the teachers asked her if she was ready to go in and play.......but then she waved to Papa Ray and I and walked in. (this is the point that I started to tear up, don't ask me why, I was just being a Mom today watching her little girl be all grown up)

When I came back to pick her up, her first words to me were, "Mommy, I was happy the whole time you were gone!" Whew! Our little, Miss Independent was still little Miss Independent.

Let's hope day #2 goes just as well.......

Geez Michele,

I almost teared up reading that too! Can't wait to see the kids for the big birthday blowout. If you have any specific ideas for presents, email me or Jeff quick. Otherwise we'll go by the list on the blog.
